In 1930, Continental struck gold with sponge cake when Jimmy Dewar invented Twinkies. Priced at two for a nickel, Twinkies quickly rose in popularity, becoming the best-selling snack cake for Hostess. Today, Twinkies are considered an American staple, with over half a billion produced each year.

In 1995, Interstate Bakeries Corporation acquired Continental Baking Company, solidifying its position as the largest wholesale baker of bread and cakes in the US. In 2009, Interstate rebranded as Hostess Brands, Inc., to better represent their beloved products. Today, Hostess continues to create memorable moments with a range of classic and new treats like Ding Dongs, Ho Hos, and Donettes.
